CHARLOTTE — Running back Christian McCaffrey has officially been ruled out of Sunday’s rematch with the Buccaneers.

McCaffrey, who injured his shoulder late in last week’s loss to the Chiefs, missed all three days of practice this week. The good news is the injury isn’t considered long-term, and head coach Matt Rhule said he’s hopeful McCaffrey can return next week against the Lions.

With McCaffrey out, Mike Davis will get his seventh start of the season.

Running back with Reggie Bonnafon, who was on the reserve list the past five weeks with a high ankle sprain, was also ruled out. So the Panthers will handle running back just like they did in most previous weeks with McCaffrey out: Curtis Samuel, Trenton Cannon and Alex Armah are all candidates to get carries.
