South Carolina Reports 4245 New Covid Infections Thursday

Greenville County once again lead the state in new Covid infections with 380 new cases reported Thursday as South Carolina surpassed 4000 daily cases and 56 deaths. To give some perspective, one month ago, South Carolina reported 967 cases; this represents a 338% increase.

The Percent Positive Rate for Covid tests stands at 15.8%; three times the percentage deemed reasonable by the World Health Organization. A higher percent positive suggests higher transmission and that there are likely more people with coronavirus in the community who haven’t been tested yet. The World Health Organization recommended in May that the percent positive remain below 5% for at least two weeks before governments consider reopening

Governor McMaster seems to have found a kindred spirit in South Dakota governor Kristi Noem. South Dakota South Dakota has a weekly positivity rate of 38.8%; almost 8 times the rate deemed acceptable by the WHO.
