South Carolina College Athletes Can Now Market Themselves

SC governor signs into law college athlete compensation bill

South Carolina’s governor has signed into law a bill that would allow college athletes in the state to make money or other benefits from their names and images. The bill goes into effect in 2022.

To players like Trevor Lawrence, the new ruling could mean thousands of dollars a year as they can now profit from brands using their image and name to promote their products. The law allows players to profit from autograph sessions, guest appearances, sponsorships or other events that use their name, image or likeness. They cannot use the schools branding and logos as part of this new law.
