Paxton Meadows community in Greer sees swift sales in turbulent times

Breaking ground on a new housing development is never easy, and that’s especially true during a global pandemic.

And yet the new active adult community Paxton Meadows in Greer, which broke ground in March, is already seeing strong sales, even as uncertainty in the housing market stands at a height not seen in more than a decade.

Developed by Charlotte-based homebuilder NewStyle Communities, which builds homes tailored for adults 55 or older, Paxton Meadows has already sold 10 of its 49 available all-brick homes, priced in the mid-$300,000 range.

“Would we be getting more sales if the pandemic wasn’t in place? Possibly,” said Krystal Land, sales manager for Paxton Meadows. “But as far as sales goals we set, we’ve been reaching and exceeding them, so it hasn’t affected that nearly as much as we anticipated.”

Paxton Meadows, located on Brushy Creek Road in Greer, offers single-level homes featuring private courtyard spaces, two-car garages and open floor plans. Buyers can also choose to add in structural features such as screened porches and second-story bonus suites.

Land said the homes are specifically designed to incorporate features like wide doorways, zero-entry showers, lever door handles and comfort-height toilets.

“Older buyers tend to be very deliberate about buying a home at this stage of life,” Land said. “But once they’ve found the home they want, they’re all in.”

Buyers are given a two-year membership to the nearby YMCA with each new home purchase, and a nearby pocket park with an entertainment pavilion offers a close gathering spot for residents — assuming the pandemic woes are in the past.

Those who purchase a home can expect to move in by this time next year.
