New COVId-19 cases drop slightly in NC

Cases in North Carolina: 674,637 lab-confirmed cases with 8,083 deaths. DHHS reported 6,811 new cases on Sunday. The percentage of positive test results is averaging 11.8% over the last two weeks. NCDHHS is reporting that 3,862 people are hospitalized statewide due to COVID-19.

Cases in South Carolina: 351,887 total cases of COVID-19 with 5,654 deaths. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) announced 4,584 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday with 76 new confirmed deaths and 2,375 COVID-related hospitalizations. The percentage of positive tests is 23.5%.

Coronavirus is so prevalent in South Carolina, state health officials report it is impossible to contact trace each case to contain the spread.

This week, South Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services announced public health efforts in the Palmetto State would be shifting from “containment” to “mitigation.”

“How much virus is out there is just so much that the contact tracing alone is not going to help control it,” said Dr. Brannon Traxler, SCDHEC’s Interim Public Health Director. “So it really comes down to communities and people helping take extra actions to protect themselves and others.” #COVID19 #Coronavirus #WakeUpCLT
