More Than Just Music Happening This Weekend in Greenville SC

Brett Barest

I know I typically use this space to preview some local shows on the horizon but we decided to expand the scope from time to time as the Upstate has so much more to offer than just music. As I look at the event calendar for the weekend ahead, I cannot help but notice that there is a little something for everybody looking to get out and have a safe, socially distanced good time. Allow me to be your guide for the weekend ahead…

Thursday: The Greenville Swamp Rabbits

I am really pointing at myself here because I am way overdue to get to a Swamp Rabbits’ hockey game this year. We had tickets to a game back in the spring that was canceled just an hour before the puck dropped as the world starting shutting down everywhere we turned. Now they are back with limited seating capacity and I need to make up for what we missed. Thursday night they host interstate rival the South Carolina Stingrays for a great excuse to start the weekend a day early. Even better, a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit local non-profit A Child’s Haven which treats children with developmental delays and, as I always say, there is no better cause than helping children in my humble opinion.

Friday: Naked Pasta Pop-Up @ Carolina Bauernhaus Greenville

While I am generally terrible at any form of self-promotion (I have not updated my website since last April) I never hesitate to brag about my wife. That said, I have no problem telling the world that she is bringing the badassery that is Naked Pasta to Carolina Bauernhaus at Poe West for a special pop-up supper Friday evening from 5-7pm. A lamb shank lasagna with lamb braised in the brewery’s Verlorenjahr barrel aged wild ale will be the featured item with a supporting cast of five cheese lasagna,  potato beer cheese soup, salad, and garlic bread. Start your date night there and then cap it off with a cocktail and chocolate just a few doors down at LaRue Fine Chocolate for the First  Friday night win in The Village of West Greenville.

Saturday: Kite Hill Brewing Collab Release @ Fireforge Crafted Ale

Breweries love collaboration and consumers love to taste their results. Saturday we can do just that when Fireforge releases their collab with Kite Hill Brewing, a new brewery opening up in Clemson this summer. The result of their efforts will be a “Fire Hill” hoppy cream ale made with local and regional and regional malts in celebration of the Southeast’s brewing community and its suppliers. Brewers from both breweries will be on hand so you can meet the makers of this fine concoction.

Sunday: Punk Rock Flea Market @ The Radio Room

The Radio Room might still be holding off on shows until later this month but the Punk Rock Flea Market returns this Sunday for all of your punk rock shopping enjoyment. Everything from clothing and jewelry to taxidermy (and seemingly everything in between) will be on hand for arguably the most unique market event you will find in the Upstate. Plus, you get the added satisfaction of supporting local purveyors and the Radio Room itself as the bar and kitchen will both be open for business. It is unsafe to shop sober and hungry, after all.

One last note since this is customarily a music feature – The Radio Room has some good news for those who missed out on tickets to the Stop Light Observations show on February 28. A second, early show has been added to the evening so if you hustle you just might get a chance to snag a pod of tickets before they sell out again.

That is a lot of fun to pack into one weekend but I am sure if we mask up, wash our hands, and keep our distances, we can be up for the challenge.  Have a great rest of your week and maybe I will see you out in the world. I won’t recognize you with your mask on, of course, but I will still see you…
