Greenlink Phasing in Later Service Hours on December 1

Greenlink will extend bus service to 11:30 p.m. on four bus routes beginning December 1. Currently, bus service is provided from 5:30 a.m. through 7:30 p.m. on weekdays. Beginning December 1, customers will be able to ride four routes starting at 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. The four routes that will be extending service hours in Phase 1 of the service expansion are:

502: White Horse 503: Poinsett 504: Anderson 507: Augusta

Greenlink’s Transit Development Plan, which was adopted in 2018, identified a series of improvements that would make the Greenlink bus system more useful to Greenville County residents. The plan outlines improvements that can be implemented in a phased approach and the first step prioritized in the Transit Development Plan (TDP) is to extend night service on weekdays.

According to Greenlink’s Public Transit Director James Keel, the TDP is a roadmap for Greenlink’s future enhancements. “Greenlink’s last weekday trip departs from the Transit Center at 6:30 p.m. With a system that ends service so early, our riders are limited when it comes to employment opportunities, errands and other essential trips, and visiting with friends or family,” said Keel. “We’re excited that both Greenville County and the City of Greenville recognize the importance of expanding transit. This improvement would not be possible without the support and funding from both County Council and City Council.”

Greenlink expects to phase in the extended service hours to the rest of Greenlink’s twelve fixed routes in early 2021. Additional bus drivers are still needed to make this possible and Greenlink launched a commercial driver’s license training program in June 2020 to help fill these positions.
