Climbing world mourns ‘brilliant and talented’ 16-year-old French climber

A rising star in the climbing world, 16-year-old Luce Douady of France, died on Sunday after falling nearly 500 feet from a cliff while climbing in the Alps. Douady was a standout on the French climbing team. The French Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing called her talent “very promising.”

Douady won the Youth World Championships in bouldering in Arco, Italy last year and finished fifth at the International Federation of Sport Climbing Boulder World Cup circuit in Vail, Colorado, CNN reports.
“She went as she lived,” her climbing club said in a Facebook post. “Living life to the fullest.”
