People with these coronavirus symptoms should call health providers first, DHEC says

Many people are asking questions about when and where to get tested for the coronavirus when upper respiratory infection symptoms show up. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control says people who have a fever, cough or shortness of breath should call their health provider first. Doctors say that’s important, so emergency rooms and urgent cares don’t get overcrowded and to prevent the spread of the illness. “We still have normal everyday emergencies are still happening,” said Dr. Parker Miller, at AnMed Health Clemson. “So if we overwhelm everything with viral illnesses that are tough to distinguish that can certainly backup everything.”Miller’s message is to contact your medical provider or DHEC first if you have upper respiratory infection symptoms. “We don’t want people panicking,” said Miller. “We don’t want to raise fear amongst people, we want to reduce the level of fear and if we can achieve that
