Why the Upstate market is attracting venture capital

Vincent Harris of Upstate Business Journal (a publication of Community Journals) writes about Greenville, South Carolina, and its growing reputation for attracting venture capital firms. One such firm is North Carolina-based Flywheel Coworking. The company not only brings investment capital to budding startups – it is mapping out a partnership with Furman University to build an innovation district near campus.  The space is aimed at bringing together under one roof Upstate entrepreneurship partners and institutions, and offering capital access to entrepreneurs from inception to early and growth stage.

Flywheel Coworking’s founder Peter Marsh said, “I think Greenville has built a reputation as a city that’s done quite a good job revitalizing its downtown, and has a longer track record stimulating entrepreneurship than many of its peer communities around the Southeast.”
