This dance studio was converted into classroom space for remote learning

As parents struggle to accommodate remote or hybrid learning realities this fall, a dance studio in New Hampshire is getting creative with the space it has.Cheer camp is underway at Showcase Dance and Performing Arts, but in a couple of weeks, the space is converting to a remote location for students who don’t have a classroom to go to this fall.”Some of the friends that I’ve talked to, the mothers are saying they are going to have to quit their job because they don’t have any options,” parent Amanda Morrell said.One option in the area will be the Social Learning Lab at Showcase.”We are here to support them through their virtual learning avenues through their accredited school sources,” said Ali Sickles, Showcase director.The spacious dance and performing arts building is being converted into classroom space, complete with certified teachers and paraprofessionals to help with assignments for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.”As the children are moving from one room to another, each child has a taped off spot in which to stand and move forward as we move through one room to the other,” said Michele Buckley, of Showcase.The rooms are fogged and sanitized between classes, protocol the center has had in place for months.”I’ve been inside the studio, and they’ve masked out 6-foot squares, and in between each class, they have to have a half hour between each class for sanitization,” Morrell said.There will be temperature checks for staff members every day, and students are screened at the door.”Our whole foundation, our culture is giving back to the community, so if we can provide or fill in the gap for their kids so they have a safe place to be educated, we’d like to do that,” Sickles said.The costs vary from $175 per week for five full-time days to $60 per week for three half-time days.
