SC DHEC reported the latest Covid-19 numbers Friday and the news is not good. South Carolina posted it’s highest daily total since February with 2203 new cases. Greenville reported 149 new cases, Spartanburg posted 135 and Richland County lead the state with 195 new infections.
The state’s percent positive rate is now 12.5%.
The percent positive rate is the percentage of all coronavirus tests performed that are actually positive. A higher percent positive suggests higher transmission and that there are likely more people with coronavirus in the community who haven’t been tested yet. For context, the World Health Organization recommended in May that the percent positive remain below 5%; South Carolina’s number is twice that.
