Shows Abound Indoors and Outside For A Great Weekend of Music

Brett Barest

Last week I used this space to celebrate the return of live shows to The Radio Room and this weekend’s marquee makes it very easy to do that again. That said, I am also writing this as the temperature outside is making me wonder why summer felt the need to come back, which means there is still plenty of room for socially distanced outdoor listening for those that might not be ready to mask up and head back inside with a crowd. Whatever your comfort level, there is plenty to choose from in the days ahead.

First, let us talk about The Radio Room… I spoke to owner/booking agent Wes Gilliam about this past Saturday’s show and he said it was well received and, more importantly, mostly well behaved. People were willing to pay a cover for an indoor show with a crowd and, with some expected exceptions, people all showed up with masks. Enforcement on the latter will increase in weeks ahead as staffs and patrons alike adjust to the ever changing version of normal.

As for the music ahead, this weekend features two great nights of music at The Radio Room. Friday will feature a three band bill made up of Luxx, Parris Bridge, and Psycho Psycho blending together an evening of pop, rock, and punk for your listening enjoyment. Saturday the sound shifts to hip-hop and rap courtesy of GR8FUL presents “Lost in Sauce”, an eight artist bill featuring a great assortment of talent. This is the first of two GR8FUL promotions happening at The Radio Room this month alone and it is nice to see local hip-hop come back in full force with the reopening of things.

Big Week For Live Music at Quest Brewing

If you are still looking to keep your attendance to gatherings outdoors, there is no shortage of options all weekend long. For their part, Quest Brewing Company is welcoming the long awaited returns of Darby Wilcox & the Peep Show and My Girl, My Whiskey, & Me, Thursday and Friday nights respectively. Then, Saturday sees an afternoon of “Reggae on the Green” with The Destinators.

Breweries continue to host great live music

As has been the norm lately, other area breweries are in the mix with live music happening at Fireforge Crafted Beer in Downtown Greenville and Carolina Bauernhaus over in the Village of West Greenville all weekend long. Carolina Bauernhaus is even bringing the return of their 3rd Sunday Blues Jam for those looking for a bluesy afternoon to better enjoy their next “Sunday Funday”. For those looking to head north a bit, Spartanburg’s RJ Rockers is moving forward with their Rocktoberfest festival on Saturday, complete with regional rock/bluegrass/Americana legends Jupiter Coyote.

Indoors or out, all of the aforementioned shows come complete with all of the safety precautions we can afford ourselves in 2020. Bring your masks, do not get handsy with strangers, and remember that shows end at 11 at the latest now. Those cautions aside, live music feels like it is almost back in full force and we are all better off for it. Get out, enjoy a show, and – as always – stay safe and tip excessively whenever possible.
