Public Comment Period Open for Justice Assistance Grant Program

The Greenville Police Department (GPD) is eligible to receive $27,229 from the U.S. Department of Justice through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG). The JAG program is the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions and funds can be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance and information systems for criminal justice.

GPD is proposing that the JAG grant be used to purchase an electric motorcycle to improve officers’ ability to respond to vehicle collisions in high-traffic areas and increase patrols in and around City parks. Currently, GPD has four motorcycles in its motorcycle patrol fleet.

The project narrative is available for review and GPD welcomes public comment on the proposed use of the JAG grant. Comments must be submitted to Jeneen Graham, GPD Fiscal Management, at jgraham@greenvillesc.gov or mailed to 426 North Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601 by Monday, September 21.
