Lindsey Graham Shifts Again, This Time Even Closer to Trump

Despite losing the Presidential election, the House and the Senate in 2020, South Carolina Senator says the Republican Party cannot move forward without Donald Trump. In a recent interview on Fox News, Graham made the following comments:

“Can I just say to my Republican colleagues—can we move forward without President Trump? The answer is no,” Graham said in an interview with Fox News on Thursday.

“I’ve always liked Liz Cheney but she’s made a determination that the Republican Party can’t grow with President Trump. I’ve determined we can’t grow without him.”

While some Republicans, lead by Liz Cheney, are are calling for the Party to move on from Trump, Graham seems set on continuing to rely on Trump and his supporters in coming elections.

Graham Has a Shifting Position on Trump

Grahams support of Trump seems to waver continuously. In 2016 after Trump made these comments: “I think Lindsey Graham is a disgrace, and I think you have one of the worst representatives of any representative in the United States, and I don’t think he should run,” Trump said of Graham at a campaign event in South Carolina.”, Graham retorted: “The bottom line is that I believe Donald Trump would be an absolute, utter disaster for the Republican Party, destroy conservatism as we know it. We’d get wiped out, and it would take generations to overcome a Trump candidacy. Here is why we’re losing the Hispanic vote. Nobody is going to listen to you about your economic plan or your ability to defend the nation if you’re going to deport their grandmother. This is why we’re getting killed with Hispanics. And Mr. Trump has taken every problem we have had with Hispanics and poured gasoline on it.”

After the 2021 riots, Graham famously made a speech with the quote “Count me out. Enough is enough,” but now he seems even further in the Trumps corner and only he knows the motivations behind his constantly shifting position.
