Father able to walk his daughter down the aisle thanks to doctors

Because of a genetic condition, Steve Berko lost the ability to walk. It was months before his only daughter, Caroline’s, wedding and he wanted to walk her down the aisle. “The whole family had concerns whether this was, first off, the right thing to do and whether it would be a positive outcome,” Berko said. His doctors moved the date of his complicated surgery up, to help Berko achieve his goal. “It’s what you go into medicine to be able to do for people,” said Dr. Cheerag Upadhyaya, Berko’s doctor. “I could see the look on his face before the surgery and the desire he had to be able to walk her down the aisle.”The surgery is fairly common but complicated, and was a success. “The moment before we walked down the aisle she held my arm, she said, ‘Daddy.’ She was uncertain. And I looked at her and I said, ‘Caroline we’ll kick back, that’s all you have to do,’ and she took a big sigh of relief.”Not only was Steve able to walk Caroline down the aisle, but he danced at the reception, too. “I shook my tail feathers, yes sir I did.
