The first half of the 2016 season was a huge success for the Greenville Drive. The club posted a 37-32 record that ranked among the best in the South Atlantic League, and eight players have been rewarded with selections to Tuesday’s All-Star Game for their outstanding play in the first half. The Drive are looking to carry that success over into the second half, which begins on Thursday with a four-game homestand in front of the best fans in baseball!
The homestand kicks off on Thursday, June 23rd as the Drive welcome the Lakewood BlueClaws, affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, to town. It is a new half of the season, but the same drink specials are in place for Dollar Drink Night at Fluor Field! For fans of all ages, $1 Pepsi products are available at all Fluor Field concession stands beginning when gates open at 6:00, and the specials continue throughout the 7:05 game. The Iron Yard 500 Club is the place to be for fans 21 and older. Take advantage of $1 PBRs, watch the future Red Sox in action, and maybe even break out the songbird in you with karaoke!
May the force be with you on Friday, June 24th to celebrate Star Wars Night at Fluor Field! First pitch is at 7:05 PM, and the Drive have all sorts of Star Wars fun and games on the docket. Borderlands Comics will be on hand with a coloring station and complimentary comic books for fans of all ages. Test your true knowledge of the entire franchise with Star Wars Trivia and movie clips, and Star Wars contests and skits will bring out the Jedi in everyone! The winners of between-inning games will receive special Star Wars prizes, and the Drive Team Store will feature co-branded Drive and Star Wars t-shirts for the night! Fans will want to stick around after the game for the most entertaining show in Greenville with Friday Night Fireworks.
On Saturday, June 25ththe Drive will host Textile League Night at Fluor Field. While Drive fans are watching some of the future baseball stars in Greenville as they wear special mill league throwback jerseys, they can learn more about some of the great players from the old textile baseball leagues, a list that includes Shoeless Joe Jackson and many more. The Drive will recognize a number of these textile league stars throughout the game who helped shape the history of baseball in the Upstate. All night long, fans will be able to try the new Pepsi 1893 cola, featuring kola nuts, real sugar and sparkling water, at Fluor Field. Samples of Pepsi 1893 will be available at both gates, and fans will be able to purchase it at the concession stands. Fans over 21 and over can head to The Iron Yard 500 Club to enjoy a special Pepsi 1893/Dark Corner Distillery cocktail.
The homestand concludes on Sunday, July 26th at 4:05 PM as the Drive host SYNNEX “Share the Magic”, an annual fundraising initiative created by SYNNEX Corporation that raises money for children who have been affected by illness, abuse or neglect. Since its inception in 2011, over $5.1 million has been raised to assist children and families in their times of need. Beneficiaries include Make-a-Wish of South Carolina, Clement’s Kindness, A Child’s Haven and Pendleton Place for Children & Families, all of which are working every day to provide a better life for children in the Upstate. The Drive are proud to be a yearlong partner with SYNNEX and Share the Magic, and a portion of each ticket sold for Sunday’s game will be donated to the cause, so head to Fluor Field on Sunday to help a worthy cause.
