The Greenville Drive‘s 14th season at Fluor Field at the West End kicks off in just three days, and our excitement for the return of baseball has been through the roof since October, when we watched eight Drive alums help the Boston Red Sox win their fourth World Series championship in the last 15 years! The excitement of Opening Week presented by TD Bank has increased even more with the announcement that Dustin Pedroia, a Red Sox World Series Champion and 2008 American League MVP, will be suiting up for the Drive this weekend on a major league injury rehab assignment!
We hope you’re as excited as we are to welcome Pedroia and the 2019 Drive roster to Downtown Greenville as we kick off Opening Week. With a roster filled with some of the top prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization, and the return of manager Iggy Suarez, excitement is high for another great year on the field in Greenville. In addition to the talent on the field, the Drive are thrilled to host a fun-filled opening homestand with great promotions, including some Fluor Field staples, as well as community-oriented events the entire Upstate can rally around. Greenville Drive vs. West Virginia Power: Thursday, April 4ththrough Sunday, April 7th
Opening Night presented by TD Bank is on Thursday, April 4th as the Drive welcome the West Virginia Power, now an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, to Fluor Field to begin a four-game series. Opening Night of baseball season is basically a national holiday, and you’ll want to be in your seats by 6:30 for the pregame ceremonies, which include pyrotechnics during player introductions, a special celebration of the Red Sox World Series championship, and much more! First pitch will be thrown at 7:05 PM. Thursday is also the first Dollar Drink Night at Fluor Field this summer! Fans over 21 are invited to the 500 Club to meet fellow young professionals and enjoy $1 Keystone Light and $2 SweetWater 420, the Beer of the Month for April. $1 Pepsi products will be available for purchase at all concession stands. We can’t think of a better view on a Friday night than fireworks above Fluor Field, so join us on Friday, April 5th for the first Hubbell Lighting “Light it Up” Friday Night Fireworks show of the season! First pitch is at 7:05 PM, and following the game, be sure to stick around for the best fireworks display in Greenville! The musical theme for the evening is “Rocky Night,” featuring all of your favorite inspirational songs from one of the best sports movie franchises of all-time. Friday also marks the return of the “Thirst Inning” promotion, where fans can purchase $2 Budweiser products at the beer carts on the third base and first base sides during the first inning of action of every Friday and Saturday home game.
Our first national act will perform during the 7:05 PM game on Saturday, April 6th, as Tyler’s Amazing Balancing Act makes its Fluor Field debut. Tyler Scheuer has an innate talent for balancing all sorts of objects on his face, from baseball gloves and glasses to larger items such as ladders and wheelbarrows, and his unique skills have been featured on America’s Got Talent, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, ESPN and much more. Don’t miss this entertainment act that has been sweeping the nation. The Drive will also be kicking off the 2019 Reedy’s Kids Club on Saturday. The first 200 kids to sign up for Reedy’s Kids Club this season will receive a complimentary youth Drive hat, and the Drive bounce house and inflatable slide will be up on Field Street for a kid’s Fun Zone throughout the game. The series with West Virginia wraps up on Sunday, April 7th with a 3:05 PM first pitch. The Drive are teaming up with Prisma Health and Bradshaw Automotive for the annual Safe Kids Upstate Day, and the first 300 kids to arrive when the gates open at 2:00 will receive a complimentary, custom-fit bike helmet. All afternoon, the Drive and Safe Kids Upstate have plans for fun activities, family safety exhibits and giveaways! The interactive exhibits include Buddy’s Safety House, a Teen Driving 3D Road Course Challenge, Hands Only CPR Demonstrations, and a chance to meet with local firefighters and law enforcement. Great prizes like drones, scooters and giant pool inflatables will be given away throughout the day. Greenville Drive vs. Augusta GreenJackets: Monday, April 8th through Wednesday, April 10th
The Drive will welcome the Augusta GreenJackets, a San Francisco Giants affiliate, to Fluor Field on Monday, April 8th. The series opener begins at 7:05 PM, and the Drive will be hosting the first Bark in the Park event of the season, so bring your four-legged friend for a special night at the ballpark! In partnership with Greenville Fashion Week, the Drive will be hosting a fashion show for your dogs all game long, where you can register and dress up your dog to walk the runway before a panel of local celebrity judges. Some of the “top dogs” to walk the runway will be invited to the finals for Greenville Fashion Week on April 26th. The Greenville Humane Society, The Noble Dog Hotel, Camp Bow Wow and K9 Offleash will have tables along the concourse with information as well.
The second annual #Teach864 Night returns to Fluor Field on Tuesday, April 9th at 7:05 PM. This night is about celebrating and elevating the teachers in the Upstate, who are the most important professionals in the lives of our community’s youth. Public Education Partners, Greenville County Schools and The Greenville Drive invite the thousands of Greenville County teachers, our partners, our friends and the entire community to a night of fun, fellowship and baseball. First-year teachers will be invited to a pregame reception in the 500 Club at 5:00 PM, and each teacher at the game will receive a commemorative #Teach864 t-shirt, provided by Herff Jones. Fluor will also be present for their first community night of the season to provide additional support to the #Teach864 initiative and education in Greenville. In-game festivities include Teacher of the Year recognition, a special teacher “Signing Day” event, a teacher dance break and much more.
Opening Week presented by TD Bank concludes on Wednesday, April 10th as the Drive partner with Greenville Hispanic Alliance and Click Magazine to kick off the 2019 Copa de la Diversion festivities. The first 3,000 fans to enter when gates open at 6:00 will receive a special poster of Drive alum and Red Sox World Series Champion, Christian Vazquez, a native of Puerto Rico. La Jefa 94.9 FM will be on hand prior to the game with a live remote broadcast to celebrate the festivities, and all evening long, Fluor Field will take on the atmosphere of a Hispanic festival, featuring food trucks, face painters, balloon artists, and games! There will also be live dance performances from the International Dance School/Academy and Jaramillo’s Latin Dance Academy, as well as mariachi band performances. The Drive will suit up as the Greenville Energia during the game as part of the Copa de la Diversion initiative with Minor League Baseball. Come out and join us on this unique evening as we conclude an exciting first homestand in Downtown Greenville!
