First responders put on convoy to show support for staff at Upstate hospitals

THAT IS WHAT FIRST RESPONDERS DID TODAY, PUTTING ON A CONVOY FOR MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AT SPARTANBURG REGIONAL. >> MY MOTHER IS ACTUALLY THE DIRECTOR OF RESPIRATORY THEATER — RESPIRATORY THERAPY. >> THIS IS PERSONAL FOR JUSTIN O’NEILL. HE IS OPERATIONS MANAGER FOR REVELATION TELLING, THE COMPANY THAT TOOK PART IN A CONVOY MADE UP OF FIRST RESPONDERS ACROSS THE COUNTY. >> WE HAVE GOT SOME VERY LARGE EQUIPMENT WITH VERY BRIGHT LIGHTS AND LOUD HORNS, AND THAT IS AN EASY WAY TO GET ATTENTION. WE WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU. >> THE CONVOY WENT AROUND SPARTANBURG MEDICAL CENTER. ORGANIZERS WANTED THIS SCENE TO SEND A STRONG SIGNAL TO THOSE ON THE FRONT LINES OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. >> WHEN YOU HAVE SOMEBODY DIAGNOSED WITH COVID-19, WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO? WE WANT TO RUN AWAY, BUT THE FOLKS IN THIS BUILDING RUN TOWARDS THOSE FOLKS. THOSE PEOPLE ARE HEROES, AND THEY NEED TO SEE THE SUPPORT. >> MEDICAL WORKERS SOAKED IN THE SUPPORT, SOMETHING NEEDED RIGHT NOW. >> THEY ARE GETTING THAT PROVERBIAL WALL. THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE IT TO THE OTHER END, BUT SOMETIMES TO GET A LITTLE PUSH TO GET THEM TO THE OTHER SIDE IS GOOD FOR THE SPIRIT. >> ADDING A LITTLE BRIGHTNESS TO ANOTHER BUSY DAY. >> THEY CAN HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE SOME OF THIS OUT OF THEIR MIND AND PUT A SMILE ON THEIR FACE

A convoy that lasted for more than 10 minutes was put on by first responders Friday morning in Spartanburg. The huge showing of support took place for medical professionals at Spartanburg Regional.The convoy consisted of first responders in Spartanburg County. They went around the Spartanburg Medical Center and Mary Black campus. Sirens and horns blared from law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and towing companies.Medical professionals were able to take in the convoy. The president of medical staff at Spartanburg Regional, Richard Harp, was instrumental in organizing the event.”When you have someone diagnosed with COVID-19, what do we want to do?” asked Harp. “Instinctively we want to run away, but the folks in this building they run towards those folks.
