Mother's Day dining spent outside, as restaurants look to indoor dining this week

Some restaurants in downtown Greenville took advantage of a sunny Mother’s Day on Sunday. Restricted to outside seating until Monday, a clear day helped with attracting a semblance of the typical downtown Mother’s Day dining rush. “When I was getting dressed this morning, I looked at my husband and I said I kind of forgot how to get ready, like, this is weird,” said Jessica Duvall, who sat with her mother at an outdoor table at Pomegranate on Main.Her business was encouraging for the restaurant. Owner Ali Saifi and his staff distanced tables and took other mandated measures to get ready for Mother’s Day. It’s the only Sunday all year he said he stays open. “It’s not a holiday, it’s an occasion, it’s a celebration of every one of us. We all celebrate it with our mother’s,” said Saifi. “So we couldn’t even consider not opening.” Saifi said the tables were fully-booked Sunday. His employees also delivered to-go orders. “I see the excitement on their faces to be able to serve the customers,” he said. It’s not about the money it’s just the pleasure of doing what they want to do.”Main Street from East North Street to McBee Avenue in downtown Greenville are closed until further notice, helping to encourage downtown dining. Some downtown restaurants including Soby’s New South Cuisine and Nose Dive took advantage of the patio or outside seating space. Others chose to do the same, as some shift their sights to limited indoor dining on Monday.
