Giving Tuesday Now

Tuesday, May 5th is #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of generosity and unity, a day to come together and give back in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19, no matter who or where we are. The coronavirus pandemic has had detrimental effects on all of us. In addition to threatened wellness for the entire population, many business sectors have been forced to devise new ways to maintain financial stability. Many are faltering, and very few are thriving. The arts community in Greenville has also taken a huge hit due to COVID-19. Estimated losses for the major arts groups will exceed $3 million by the end of the year. Loss of revenue in ticket sales, donations and sponsorship will force certain groups to have reductions in staff and to seriously curtail the number of cultural offerings they present. It is difficult to imagine a November without Greenville Open Studios, First Fridays without open galleries and a school district without arts integration programs. Greenville has a phenomenal arts community which has experienced a true Renaissance over the last 10 years. Never before has there been such a diverse and comprehensive array of artistic amenities. COVID-19 provides a serious deterrent to continued progress in the arts. We must remember that the arts have truly put Greenville in the spotlight as a tourist destination while providing cultural enrichment for its many residents. Greenville’s world-class arts organizations not only enhance the community’s quality of life but also provide a big financial impact, contributing $225 million to the local economy. Your support has never been more vital. Once the coronavirus pandemic subsides, artists and arts organizations will need to have the financial resources to regain the stability they lost during the crisis. Your donation will help ensure that MAC can continue to provide support to Greenville's artists, arts organizations and arts education programs.
