Summer is in the air, which means the Fourth of July is almost here, and there is no better way to get ready than by spending your weekend with the Greenville Drive! Following a three-game road trip, the Drive return home on Thursday, June 30thto begin a four-game homestand against the Asheville Tourists, affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Come on out to Fluor Field to enjoy a hot dog, a beer and our national pastime as part of a patriotic weekend in Downtown Greenville!
Kick off your holiday weekend with the Drive on Thursday, June 30th for Dollar Drink Night presented by The Iron Yard. The weather is getting warm, but the drinks at Fluor Field will be cold, featuring $1 Pepsi products that will be available at the concourse concession stands. The Iron Yard 500 Club is the place to be for young professional networking opportunities, and $1 PBR’s, a DJ from Uptown Entertainment and karaoke highlight the start of your long weekend.
All series long, the Drive will have their 2016 Stars and Stripes hats on sale at the Team Store on Main Street and online. Support your hometown team with the same patriotic caps Drive players will be wearing on the field this weekend.
Fans hoping to get their fix of fireworks before the Fourth are in luck, as the Drive will shoot off their famous Friday Night Fireworks following the 7:05 PM game on Friday, July 1st. The musical theme for Friday is TV Tunes Night, and all game long, the Drive will be taking social media requests on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for TV theme songs to play. From Happy Days to Friends and everything in between, all of your favorite TV tunes will be heard, and fans can your knowledge of classic TV tunes with Drive TV trivia and the ever-popular Singing Bee!
The fun starts before the 7:05 PM game on Saturday, July 2nd with the Carolina Pride Hot Dog Eating Contest. Hot dog eating contests are a July 4th staple, both in Greenville and nationwide, and fans just might get the chance to see the next Joey Chestnut in action! Winners of the Carolina Pride Hot Dog eating preliminaries, as well as previous eating champions, will be on hand for this hotly-contested eating competition, with the winner taking home prize packs from the Drive and Carolina Pride. Saturday is also 70’s Night at Fluor Field, and the Drive will be spinning all your favorite 70â€™s songs throughout the game. Grab your grooviest attire for a chance to win the Driveâ€™s 70’s costume contest, and lucky fans will be chosen to participate in fun 70â€™s games, including an air guitar contest, a disco milkshake shake from Chickfila and more!
The homestand concludes on Sunday, July 3rd with Military Appreciation Day at Fluor Field. The Drive are honored to recognize the brave men and women who have served, or continue to serve, our country, including Greenville Drive catcher J.T. Watkins, who served in the Army for two and a half years prior to joining the team. Sundayâ€™s game features a special start time of 6:05 PM, and after the game, the Drive have a patriotic themed fireworks show that is sure to wow fans of all ages!
Throughout the evening, the Drive will team up with Upstate Warrior Solution, a nonprofit that assists warriors with future opportunities and encourages the community to embrace them as neighbors and friends. Prior to the game, the Drive will have a special military vehicle display on Field Street for kids to take pictures with, and a Korean War general will be on hand to deliver the first pitch. The military celebrations will also begin before the game with a fly-in by the U.S. Army Special Forces Parachute Team and a flyover of Warbirds Vintage Aircrafts. During the game, Fluor Field will host a Purple Heart Ceremony and a Bronze Star Presentation as part of this special evening to honor current and former members of our military.
