CHARLOTTE — Just as running back Christian McCaffrey returned, he may have to miss more time with a shoulder injury he suffered late in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. 

Head coach Matt Rhule on Monday said McCaffrey is considered “day-to-day.” Rhule will likely have more information on McCaffrey’s status on Wednesday.

“Obviously, Christian’s a big part of this team,” Rhule said. “I was happy to see him out there, discouraged for him that he got banged up, and we’ll see the extent of it as we move forward.”

McCaffrey sustained the injury with 1:10 to go when he was tackled near the sideline by Chiefs linebacker Dan Sorensen after a 1-yard reception. McCaffrey exited for a few plays but returned to catch a pass for no gain with nine seconds left.
