Greenville, SC –Centre Stage is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016 New Play Festival, proudly Sponsored by the Metropolitan Arts Council, is the comedy “Four Old Broads” by Leslie Kimbell.
Audiences overwhelmingly agreed that this uproariously funny comedy about a retired Burlesque queen and her cronies in a Georgia retirement home should be the winner of the Festival. As Winner of the New Play Festival, Kimbell received $500 to advance her script.
The 14th Annual New Play Festival was generously Sponsored by the Metropolitan Arts Council. MAC’s continued involvement and funding allows Centre Stage to bring three never-before seen plays to Greenville each year in order to advance the art of dramatic creative writing. Audience Talkbacks and one-on-one’s between the authors and an established Playwright-in-Residence help the artists hone their crafts and provide an unparalleled opportunity for budding playwrights to receive mentorship from a successful playwright. This year’s Playwright-in-Residence was noted, award-winning writer, Richard Atkins, whose play “DelikateSSen” will be produced at Centre Stage in May 2017.
“Centre Stage’s New Play Festival is a highlight in our Season and could not happen without the continued and generous funding of the Metropolitan Arts Council. Their operational support is vital to our mission at CS, and they are a valued partner in all programming that we produce,” says Artistic & Executive Director, Glenda ManWaring.
Special thanks to the Metropolitan Arts Council for funding of the 2016 New Play Festival.
