What’s New at The Children’s Museum of the Upstate

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate starts 2021 with adjusted hours, enhanced safety measures and weekly programming!

To kick off 2021, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate announced adjusted operating hours and weekly programming at both locations in Greenville and Spartanburg.

As the Upstate embarks on a new year and faces colder temperatures–making outdoor play increasingly difficult–The Children’s Museum of the Upstate remains committed to providing a safe place for families looking for opportunities to create experiences and spend quality time together.

Starting Tuesday, January 5, TCMU-Greenville will be open to the public Tuesday-Saturday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.). TCMU-Spartanburg will be open Tuesday-Saturday (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Both locations will be closed on Mondays. TCMU-Spartanburg will be closed on Sundays.

To limit capacity, both locations will implement advanced timed-entry tickets. All visitors must purchase tickets in advance based on a desired entry time. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.tcmupstate.org.

TCMU will continue thorough cleaning and sanitization efforts, as well as increase regularly scheduled deep cleaning when the museum is closed to the public. By early January, both locations will have new hand sanitization stations installed. Various techniques will be used daily to thoroughly clean props, toys and exhibits. All adult visitors will still be required to wear masks or appropriate face coverings in all museum spaces.

Additionally, TCMU will bring back weekly programming–which may be familiar to many families! At TCMU-Greenville, Storytime and More will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11 a.m. and Noon. Open Art Studios will return on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturday from 1-4 p.m. And Spark!Lab, the museum’s Smithsonian sponsored think tank, will return with special facilitation in late January. At TCMU-Spartanburg, families will be able to participate in morning Story Time and More, as well as weekday afternoon art activities. For specific timing, families can check TCMU’s social media and website.

“Programming is integral to our mission, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring back many TCMU fan favorites,” says TCMU’s Programs Manager Javy Pagan, “Programs at TCMU are developed to spark creativity, collaboration, discovery, imagination and fun through play based learning the entire family can safely participate in and enjoy.”

After a year of many changes, TCMU is excited to offer a safe place for families to start the new year. Purchase tickets in advance and visit today!
