Early voting in South Carolina has begun, and science is on the ballot.

The state’s marshy islands and peninsulas are extremely susceptible to climate change; a permanent 1-foot rise in sea level would affect nearly 1,000 homes, offices, and buildings in Charleston County. And climate change is exacerbating the effects of extreme weather events like Hurricane Florence.

‘We call it global climate change, but it’s local climate change that affects agriculture, affects buildings getting knocked over and power getting knocked out,’ explains Bill Nye.

South Carolinians can request absentee or mail-in ballots through October 24 and send it in by Election Day, November 3.
