Hurricane Delta strengthened Tuesday morning to become a Category 2 storm in the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Just 24 hours previously on Monday morning, it was a tropical depression.

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, Category 2 Hurricane Delta’s winds increased to 110 miles per hour in the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Its central pressure decreased to 962 mb. It is moving west-northwest at 15 mph.

The National Hurricane Center says Delta will continue this motion for the next day or so before moving into the Gulf of Mexico early Wednesday, possibly as a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.
