“They don’t make ’em like they used to,” is the kind of cliché that should probably be out of circulation by now. It’s a homey, nostalgic phrase, and when it’s applied to movies it’s usually about wholesome family classics and sparkling old Hollywood confections. But if there’s anything that filmmakers
