Weekend Activities

Weekend activities listed below take place at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays unless otherwise noted.

July 4 – Fantastic Fibers – Felt Starfish (11 & 2): We are sewing today in Fantastic Fibers. Join us at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to make your own starfish to take home. This project is for children six and up. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org.

July 11 – Tool Time (11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.) – Planter Box: Learn basic woodworking skills and concepts by creating a finished project from scratch for plants. This project is for children seven and up. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org.

July 11 – C.A.T.C.H. – (11 & 2): A bento box is a single-portion container commonly used in Japanese cuisine to make traveling easier. Children will make kawaii-inspired bento boxes to learn about healthy portions and seasonal foods in Japanese culture. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org.

July 18 – Play in Clay – Clay Shell Hearts (11 & 2): Using air-dry clay and shells, children can make their own clay hearts to take home. You can bring in your own collection of shells or use ones provided by the Museum! This project is for children six and up. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org.

July 25 – Rad Lab – Sink or Float (11 & 2): Learn about buoyancy today as we test different objects to see what floats and what sinks in water. Children can test the buoyancy of their own tinfoil boats afterwards. This activity is for children ages six and up. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org.

Story and More

Story and More takes place at 1:00 p.m. Monday – Friday & 10am, 11am, & 1pm on Saturday during July.

July 6 – July 11 – Celebrate Shark Week: Start your own fossil collection while digging for sharks’ teeth in the sand. We will sort and classify sharks’ teeth during Story Time and More. Ages 5 and under. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org. Story and More takes place at 1:00 p.m. Monday – Friday & 10am, 11am, & 1pm on Saturday during July.

July 13 – July 18 – Seashell Science: Join us this weekend to learn about different animals that use shells for protection. Guests will have the opportunity to get hands-on with our collection of shells. Make your own seashell art afterwards. Ages 5 and under. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org. Story and More takes place at 1:00 p.m. Monday – Friday & 10am, 11am, & 1pm on Saturday during July.

July 20 – July 25 – Sensory and Sand: We aren’t at the beach but that doesn’t mean we can’t build a sand castle! Use different ingredients to make sand dough that you can use to mold, build and create. Our littlest friends will enjoy this sensory activity. Ages 5 and under. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org. July 27 – August 1 – Ocean Animal Adventure: Join us for Story Time and More as we read a story about ocean animals and splash around in water tables afterwards. Ages 5 and under. Weekly Programs For All Ages

Off the Wall takes place from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. every day during July. Kawaii-Inspired Art: Art this month focuses on traditional Japanese crafts. Design your own Kamishibai stories and create other Kawaii-inspired crafts after visiting Story Time in Be Anything. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org.

July 1 – July 31 – Kamishibai Storytelling (Be Anything): Kamishibai is a form of storytelling that originated in Japan where performers would use a series or large, illustrated cards to tell stories. Join us at 2:00 p.m. in Be Anything to listen to a Kamishibai story. Illustrate your own Kamishibai story afterwards in Off the Wall. Free with admission. TCMUpstate.org.

Special Events

July 4 – Red, White, & Blue Day: 9am-5pm, free with admission. TCMUpstate.org. Join us as we celebrate America’s birthday.

July 18 – Build It Day: 9am-5pm, free with admission. TCMUpstate.org. Join us as we build with a variety of materials.
