Mark Mullins is a seasoned Risk and Technology Executive with over twenty years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to his current role as Chief Data Officer at United Community Bank, Mark worked to organize the bank’s risk reporting and analytics function. Mark has built an extensive career in Risk Reporting and Technology roles at large US Regional banks such as TD, BB&T, Regions, and BBVA Compass. Through his experiences at these banks, Mark has developed a strong understanding of how technology, data infrastructure, and reporting / analytic tools support effective risk management practices and bank-wide strategic decision making.
As a skilled leader of business analytic and business technology teams, Mark’s management style is geared towards engaging business leaders and technology leaders in collaborative solutions from a strategic perspective. Most recently working for the bank’s CIO, Mark is leading the development of the Chief Data Office at UCBI to create a unified information management practice and long-term data strategy. The new combined team under the CDO includes Database Development and Architecture, Business Intelligence and Reporting, and Advanced Analytics.
Academically, Mark earned his bachelor’s of science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Finance, and subsequently became an honorary graduate in the Masters of Science in Information Technology and Management program (MSITM) from the same university. Affiliations include the RMA Association, ISACA – Information Systems Audit and Control Association, and TDWI – The Data Warehouse Institute.
Mark enjoys playing soccer, skiing in Park City, and spending time with his family. Mark lives with his wife, Michelle, and two daughters Emily (17) and Ellie (15), in Greenville, SC.
