August 2017 Events & Activities

All Museum events and activities are free with admission.

 

Weekend Activities

Weekend activities take place at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays unless otherwise posted.

 

August 5 – Eclipse Take-Home: Join us at 11 and 2 for eclipse-related activities. Make a take-home that will help you view the eclipse safely.

August 12 – Predict the Corona: What do you think the sun’ corona will look like during the eclipse? Join us to learn more about what a corona is and create your own artwork to take home.

August 19 – 3D Printing and Pinhole Projectors: Join us today to learn more about 3D printing and how the sun can shine through a pinhole!

August 26 – Play in Clay – Space Theme: Stop by at 11 and 2 for our Play in Clay! What objects from our solar system can you create?
Other Events and Fee-Based Programs

 

August 18 and 11 AM: Kendra Kent and FOX Team will be here to talk about the science of the eclipse and how to view it! Interactive activities included.

 

August 11 6 PM – 8 PM: Countdown to Kindergarten – Free admission for rising Kindergarten students and their families. Meet vendors with resources for Kindergarten students.
Random Acts of Science
Permanent Demonstrations to take place Wednesday – Saturday at scheduled times.
Random Acts of Science: 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

These will be demos done at an announced location. These will change periodically.

August 5 – 9 – Alka-Seltzer Rockets: 3,2,1… Blastoff! Join us for more space-related programs as we shoot Alka-Seltzer Rockets off all week for RAOS.

Off the Wall

Week 1 (August 3 – 9): Eclipse Art: Use chalk and more to make your own artwork of the Total Eclipse.

Week 2 (August 10 – 16): Eclipse Art: Use chalk and more to make your own artwork of the Total Eclipse.

Week 3 (August 17 – 23): Eclipse Art: Use chalk and more to make your own artwork of the Total Eclipse. After viewing the eclipse, make another piece of artwork denoting what you experienced. Upload it using the hashtag #eclipseartquilt for it to be included in the Eclipse Art Quilt Project!

TCMU Story Time and More

August 2017

Celestial Celebration

Ages 5 and Under; 10 am, 11am & 1 pm

 

July 31 – August 5                                     Marvelous Moon

Let’s get together and celebrate the marvelous moon as it gets ready to

become full and shine brightly in the sky. We will read a book about the moon

and then have fun making a moon craft.

 

August 7 – August 12                               Amazing Meteors

This week will we will celebrate the Perseids Meteor Showers that will

be happening in the overnight sky. During Story Time & More we will read a

book about outer space and then we will make our own meteors to take home.

 

 

August 14 – August 19                            Perfect Planet

We live on the most perfect planet in our solar system. This week we will

learn about the earth and make a craft celebrating this planet we call home.

 

 

August 21 – August 26                            Sensational Sun

Join us as we experience the total eclipse of the sun at TCMU. We will watch the

eclipse on August 22 but will spend the entire week learning about the sun. We

will have fun together making a sun craft to take home.

 

August 28 – September 2                       Super Stars            

Join us as we wrap up the month of celestial celebrations by learning about

stars. We will read a book about stars and then have a star stamping craft for

children to complete.
